Sad News

This weekend was totally crazy. On Friday I went to the State Fair with my family. Where I enjoyed a pork chop on a stick, a pronto pup, homemade nut roll and a few beers. I have to say, I totally love the State Fair. I mean what would happen if I didn't get a yearly ride on the Giant Slide. I even noticed that one of my friends won a first prize for art. How cool!
So Friday drifted by, and along came Saturday. My mother and I decided to do some shopping. Picked up some new kitchen chairs at IKEA, found a sweater pattern for her Christmas present, checked out the new Global Market. It was a great time, but as we were pulling in to my driveway I noticed a glum husband on the porch. I could tell right away that something bad had happened.
On Saturday, our friend Steph Perry passed away. She was only 30! About a year and half ago Steph was diagnosed with cervical cancer. I guess I should say that she was mis-diagnosed. The first doctor she went to told her she was having an abnormal period and sent her home. However, as a medical student and an adult woman, she knew the doctor was wrong. So frustrating.
Also on Saturday I brought my mother to CatPower. Probably not the best show to go to after a friend died, but I am glad I went. Needless to say the rest of the weekend was spent taking care of our friends who were really close to Steph. It was a bit of a mess. So we are off to a funeral tomorrow.

I guess I know who I will be remembering for the Day of the Dead KAL. I had no good pictures for this entry, so I just included a picture of my yarn stash. I needed something to lighten the mood of this entry. Check out the horrible orange scarf that I was making. It really looks like pumpkin puke. Not to mention found the one felted glove I made. Also, very ugly. I think it is good to go through these knitted misfits, even if it does make me feel like I have no idea how to knit.
