The Story of Bacon

Well there certainly is a story behind my cat Bacon's name, as well as my other cat Scab's name. However, I will give you a portion of Bacon's story for now. I got Bacon from a friend who already had too many kitties, and I was having a really hard time adjusting my first year in the Cities. So I decided a cat would be great and help me "adjust". Not to mention, I grew up with a lot of animals and at the time thought a cat maybe one of the missing piece.

Needless to say, I got this small white kitten from this friend who had already named her Vicki. "Vicki," I thought, "What kind of a name is that for a cat?" Not to mention, this small white kitten did not act like a Vicki because this kitten was naughty.

The very first day I brought her home I found her completely inside a bag of Cheetos, munching away. Which is great, because my little white kitten turned orange. What can I say the cat loves people food. (This is especially ironic now because Bacon only weighs 7 lbs and are other cat -who only eats her diets cat food, by her choice - weighs closer to 15 lbs.)

Anyways, Vicki ate everyone's food, nothing was safe. She ate Banana Bread, Beef Jerky, and once she actually stole my roommate's lunch from his work bag. Well that was only the beginning of her naughtiness. "Vicki" also could jump, climb, open the fridge, and open drawers. One day while I was cleaning the kitchen, and listening to Ween, "Vicki" opened the utensil drawer and just squeezed herself right in. I frantically yelled to try and scare her out.

Lets just say this apartment wasn't a real Gem, I knew once she was in there she could get behind all the cupboards. Anyways, when I yelled, trying to spook this tiny kitten, but the only thing that came out was the lyric I was singing "Bacon and Eggs a perfect match." Well, you can fill in the rest, I guess the name stuck and Ween's song Freedom of '76 is still only my fav. I will give you Scab's story some other day, her name story I think is even better. It was fun to re-call this story, considering Bacon has really mellowed out in her years.

On to knitting news! This is a knitting blog right. I think I am going to knit this from my yarn for this. I just don't like the feel of my 1 sock from this yarn. So what the hey rip rip rip and make a bag from it.

LOL! That is quite a story, how long did it take you to actually get her out?

Very funny about the Cheeto-coloured cat! I can just see the mess!

I like your story. I have a cat named Ramona. The Pest. When she was a kitten, I lived in a studio apartment and she found enjoyment in creating chaos in every tiny corner of it. She climbed the wooden walls, trying to squeeze under my posters, knocked glasses onto the floor in the middle of the night (breaking them near my sleeping head-remember it was a studio) and once filled the entire room with shreds of toilet paper. But now, like Bacon, she's totally mellowed out. Cats are strange. She still wears a spiked Harley Davidson collar, though.
